HISTORY

In 1905 Joseph Lamont Sr. was born in Ireland. As a young man Joe Sr. emigrated from Ireland to the US. Upon his arrival Joe Sr. began working in the supermarket industry. During this time Joe Sr. was approached by a childhood friend from Ireland, Matt Gardner. Matt had a small coffee distribution facility in Delaware County. In short, Matt reached out to Joe Sr. aiming to expand the reach of his current operation to Trenton, NJ.

Amid the early stages of Matt’s expansion endeavor he reached out to Joe Sr. hoping that he might show some interest in buying his Delaware County operation. Joe Sr. by nature was a conservative man and not considered by any to be an unruly risk taker, but a calculated risk was another notion. Here enters Joseph Lamont Jr., his son. Joe Jr. was confident that as with some hard work and as a family they could turn this opportunity into their own American dream. Thereafter Lamont Coffee and Speciality Tea formally began their operations in a small Glenolden warehouse, and in 1956 the family business was born.

Joseph Lamont III and James Lamont joined their dad in the late 70's. Then in 1997 Joe Sr. passed the torch to his two sons, Joe III and Jim. Together, as a family, they continue to run the family business today.

Joe III and Jim each have three children, and the 4th generation Lamont's are involved and carrying on the strong tradition started in 1956.
